Over 40 years in the profession and still learning something new every day.  This is driven by constant changes in the field and continuing needs of our clients.  Being in a profession means providing service.  To succeed in a profession requires providing relevant, quality, and timely services.

Joe graduated Cum Laude from the University of Hartford with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and went to work for Wollack & Lewitz, a firm his father started as a sole practitioner in Old Saybrook in 1958 and predecessor of the current firm WollackLewitz.  Joe was licensed as a Certified Public Accountant in the state of Connecticut on January 20, 1983.

One of the practice areas Joe focuses on is nonprofit organizations.  This is a very diverse area of expertise, and each situation has its own nuances.  Nonprofits come in all shapes and sizes, and each one is unique.  With 40 years of experience in this area, Joe is able to provide the unique insight needed, whether it be Form 990 preparation or compiled, reviewed, or audited financial statements.

Joe also works with hundreds of individuals each year for the preparation of their personal tax returns.  Many of these individuals require planning services during the year, whether it be determining the impact of exercising stock options, selling assets, investing in real estate, or just changes in the family.  Working with families over many years (and multiple generations) gives a unique insight into their situations.  Joe is a key player in the team of accountants, investment advisors, and lawyers.  As individuals age, trusts and eventually estates become part of their financial dynamics.  Joe has worked with trusts and estates throughout his career and has exceptional experience with the preparation of Form 1041 and identifying opportunities to minimize taxes.

Joe lives in Old Saybrook with his wife Denise.  He is very involved in the community, having served as Treasurer and President of both the Old Saybrook Chamber of Commerce and the Old Saybrook Lions Club.  In 2015 Shore Publishing awarded Joe its Beacon Award For selflessly stepping up to help fulfill the Shoreline community’s promise as a place of opportunity, wellbeing, and safety for all.
